You awaken lying in a pitch-black cellar, seemingly alone, at the beginning of the story. All of a sudden, you realize there are two people in front of you, standing close to a dim altar. The two odd protagonists claim that this is where a strange plaque known as “Shadow Plate” is located. Out of the blue, you decide to fight them with your Pokémon, but none of them seem to be with you. At this precise moment, a mysterious figure with an emblem of a “R” decides to come towards you. He literally walks through you when you try to stop him. He moves to the back of the room and performs a strange ritual that appears to start a terrible earthquake. He then continues on. A large shadow rushes into your room at that precise moment. wakes you up in that direction. Realizing it was all just a dream, you decide to get out of bed, drenched in sweat (or pee, who knows…), only to find that it is already afternoon—too late for your appointment with the teacher to obtain your first Pokémon!
